The Luscher Series 2010-2011

The Luscher series were a series of projects inspired by my colour blindness and the, now discredited, theories of Swiss psychologst Luscher.

The first project involved surveying people on a set of colours taken from the short form of the Luscher test. The participants were asked to describe the colours without referring to the name of the colour. This was shown as a recording is a recording of survey participants describing the purple colour from the short form of the Luscher Test. The Luscher test is a now discredited psychological personality test based on colour choices. The recording gives glimpses both into our subjective readings of colours and imagined insights into peoples personalities.

This second video of the Luscher project was one a series of works that also included a soundtrack for each colour, here sung at 'Made in Roath" 2011, and a projection based installation. It was exhibited at Swansea Metropolitan University and at the Backlit Gallery in Nottingham as well as Made in Roath in Cardiff. The soundtrack was created by asking people to choose notes to represent the colours. Although inspired by synesthetes, this project is more about exploring the desire to find meaning.
